Take Off

This photo was from the same shoot as yesterday. I did over process for the colors and texture of the sky.
I like this photo for all the detail in the Hawks wings.
I like the action.
I like the interest of the clouds.
This photo has many interesting aspects to it. The pole at the bottom of the photo shows where the bird came from and the sky shows where it is going. In action shots it is important to give a sense of where the subject is going. This gives a nice subject more interest.

Red Tail Hawk

I decided we needed our logo at work updated. The central part of our logo is a Hawk. So today I decided to give taking photos of these magnificent birds a try. This is the first time I have tried to photograph birds of prey. I took my daughter out in search of some raptors. Within minutes we came across an osprey checking out a local pond. I set up to start shooting totally focused on the osprey when my daughter started to scream and then run. She was being attacked by a couple of protective geese. I couldn’t tell where the nest was but they were not happy with us. In the meantime the osprey flew away. We then started down some back roads and pretty soon came across this red tail hawk.
The specs:
Hand held
iso 400
280mm
f/4.8
1/4000sec
I post processed it in lightroom and then added a small topaz adjust filter to the final product.

Self Portrait

For the next few weeks as we gear up for our daughters wedding I will post when I can. I think this will be at least a couple of times a week.
This was a fun photo to take. I took some Scarlet Gilia wildflower leaves to my friends studio and we shot a bunch of macro photos. This was fairly easy to do. We placed the leaves in a vase and sprayed them with water. Then I sat down on the opposite side of the table. With the plants in between me and the camera. The blue you see behind the stems is my shirt. I appear upside down in the drops of water.
